Spire Opens for Lunch, Transylvanian Goulash Is Spotted at Lokal

The last 24 hours in rumor, innuendo, and straight-out facts about restaurant openings and closings in San Francisco.

Tamara P., guest blogging at Eater, announced that Wednesday was opening day for Spire (685 Third St., 947-0000, www.spiresf.com). To celebrate, Grub Street posted the lunch menu and Thrillist created a video tour of the restaurant's interior. The pitch: a 92-seat restaurant in a converted warehouse with upstairs lounge; for lunch, former Waterbar sous Laird Boles is doing eclectic-ish Californian fare like sardine salads and sandwiches on house-made naan. Dinner to follow.

Tasting Table SF stops by the brand-new Lokal in downtown Sonoma (522 Broadway, Sonoma, 707-938-7373), which none of of us in the city paid attention to. The pitch: cafe serving Hungarian and Germanic food cooked by former PlumpJack Cafe chef Rick Edge. TTSF finds Transylvanian goulash, a dish that those of us who used to order it at the Hungarian Sausage Factory on Cortland dearly miss.
There being no yang without yin, Tamara P. also reports that the Marina branch of Noodle Theory is shutting down (the Rockridge branch is sticking around).
