Morimoto Napa Opens Today. Relive Some of the Iron Chef's Greatest TV Moments

Masaharu Morimoto debuts Morimoto Napa today, an event so momentous that Inside Scoop took the time and care to assemble a dossier on the topic and Eater SF has the pretty pictorial and menu. We instead would like to salute this newcomer by reminiscing on Morimoto's stints on Iron Chef, first in Japan and then in America.

Morimoto joined the Japanese version of Iron Chef in 1998, and logged 16 wins, seven losses, and one draw by the time the series ended in the following year. Battles won include sea bream, rice, bamboo shoots, cod roe, perch, tofu, turkey, and asparagus.

At the time of the clip below, Morimoto had logged an impressive 67 wins, 10 losses, and one draw Stateside. He's largely remembered for his "stained glass sushi" in this battle asparagus (once again), a concept that Morimoto appears to be replicating in Napa, if the Accidental Wino's report from the pre-opening is any indication. After watching this video, click through to YouTube to watch the rest of the episode, if so inclined.
