​My favorite bites from the blogs and beyond this week:

1. Bite o' the week I was going to say my favorite non-review dish of the week was the alcachofas a la plancha at Esperpento, which I was relieved to enjoy as much as I did. Then I ate a quesadilla roja from Nopalito for lunch today. It was as astonishing to look at ― chiles mulatos in the masa tinted the tortilla the color of blood ― as it tasted.

2. One of my pet peeves with the media coverage of upscale food trucks is how little respect we all pay to the taco trucks who paved the way with both customers and local agencies. That's why I was glad to read Cyrus Farivar's interview with Edgar Galindo, whose father started Mi Grullense, one of Oakland's first taco trucks, in 1984.

​3. Tamara Palmer scoured the country to come up with a list of 10 rockstar sandwiches. Call me dense, but I still don't get why Richie Nagano's Lady Gaga sandwich has fried cod and avocado.

4. John Birdsall discovered the Goody Goodie tuktuk/bajaj/miniature truck parked outside Cento, and the chocolate chip and salted peanut-butter cookies he brought back to the office were phenomenal. Remi Hayashi-Girouard and Mary Moran don't just serve their desserts from a bajaj; Goody Goodie's "dessert salon," located at 1246 Folsom (at Eighth St.), is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wed.-Sat.

5. The SF Street Food Festival is returning in a month, and the lineup of vendors has been announced. Prepare yourselves.
