Golden West, Dennis Leary's new lunch spot and bakery near the Montgomery Muni station, appears to have opened for breakfast and pastries today. According to an Eater interview in late June, the Canteen chef promises it will be slightly more ambitious than his nearby Sentinel, and will provide all the baked goods for his other restaurants.

SFoodie sent a scout over to the restaurant, who was told by one of the bakers that Golden West was only open today for breakfast and pastries -- the doors shut by noon. Lunch should start sometime later this week or early next.

UPDATE: Reached by phone, Leary said that no, Golden West is not open officially, though yeah, the place did open this morning, and will probably open tomorrow morning. "But only to give stuff away," Leary said, citing staffing issues. "We would like to make a little money," Leary added, holding out hope that, with hiring luck, Golden West could be open for real on Friday. Maybe.
