What to Have for Lunch: Nachos and Sports Lust at Pete's Tavern

Yesterday's lunchtime jersey mob at Pete's horseshoe bar generated noise approaching that of a stadium bristling with vuvuzelas, as Brazil put the final touches on its Dear Leader-shaming win over North Korea. No telling whether the midday face-off between South Africa and Uruguay will stir similar decibel levels, but considering today's Giants' 12:45 start against Baltimore, the sprawling SOMA tavern should prove a roiling center of testosterone-fed exuberance. And seriously, what feeds sports lust better than nachos? Pete's are better than you'd think: bits of nubbly chorizo and dark-meat chicken, guacamole that isn't exactly a runny industrial product, and honest cheese melted over fried chips that while, yeah, are permeated with grease, nevertheless make you want to keep eating, long past the point of shame or elation. Depending on who scored the last goal.
