Sometimes the right thing to eat isn't the newest or most obscure, but the thing you've loved for years. That's true of La Taqueria's carnitas burrito, a joint we once called "an unequivocal work of genius." Though the phrase is all zipped up in a cliché of the geeky music writer, we stand by the hype. La Taq's carnitas fibers skew chewy-crisp ― they're the kind that need molar power for chewing ― its pot beans fat and pliable. Both get textural support from hashy pico de gallo and suave avocado pieces. In its focus on just a few impeccable ingredients, it's the Mission's most restrained and yet most fulsome burrito.
