We've got a promising newcomer to add to our local resource guide to kombucha. Healdsburg's Vibranz, a new line of bottled kombucha beverages from the makers of Sonoma Sparkler juices, sent us some of its nine flavors to sample. The company hopes to distinguish itself in the market by minimizing the vinegarlike aftertaste that turns off some drinkers. The results do seem to have the potential to change minds. Taste-wise, at least, it may not do much for those trying to chase the alcoholic buzz effect that some brands tend to create, but the rest of us should be happy.

Vibranz kombucha is brewed with green tea, sweetened with evaporated cane juice, and mixed with organic juices and extracts. Flavors veer toward the unexpected, including pomegranate, blood orange, chai, and peach-passion fruit. Find Vibranz at a growing list of local retailers, including Whole Foods Noe Valley, Rainbow Grocery, Mollie Stone's, Rincon Market, and Canyon Market.
