Thankfully, Tuesday's Classes on Pisco and Tequila Come with Samples
That night, the San Francisco History Association is hosting a lecture by Guillermo Toro-Lira, author of Wings of Cherubs: The Saga of the Rediscovery of Pisco Punch, who will talk about the city's centuries-old affection for pisco, or Peruvian brandy. The Pisco Punch was one of San Francisco's signature drinks until Prohibition, when it disappeared from our collective memory. That very evening, The Liberties, which has begun organizing alcohol-education workshops, is holding a tequila tasting with Manny Hinojosa. He'll be lecturing about tequila production and styles, from white to cask-aged. Then Hinojosa will lead students through what wine geeks call a vertical tasting of two producers, Cazadores and Corzo, bookended by tastes of two of his tequila cocktails. Do take a taxi home after you've been schooled, lest you end up in the other kind of alcohol-education workshop ― the court-mandated kind.
