Bi-Rite's Raffle for Gulf Fishermen Starts Today
One thing we like about Bi-Rite is how the store treats its employees and producers like family. In September, when pastured-chicken purveyor Soul Food Farm fell prey to a fire that savaged its stock of poultry, Bi-Rite staged a raffle and raised over $8,000. Now, in the wake of the BP oil leak, the 18th Street institution is going to bat for Gulf Coast fishermen affected by the disaster, as part of Dine Out for the Gulf Coast, Jimmy Galle's nationwide food industry benefit for the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund. Bi-Rite's raffle starts today and will last just two weeks. Available for purchase at Bi-Rite, Bi-Rite Creamery, or by calling the market at 241-9760. Tickets cost $5 apiece; $20 gets you five, along with a cloth Bi-Rite bag. The drawing will happen at 18 Reasons on June 30 at 8 p.m., where Galle himself will share his perspective on the spill. Prize list after the jump.![]()
