Chocolate-strawberry bread pudding ($3).
Like flatmates ejected in some complex landlord drama, Pinkie's Bakery and Bento 415 stuck together last month, when they left the Potrero Flats production kitchen and retail counter they shared. Now they're in SOMA, in the former Ideal Café on Folsom. As Bento's Chris Beerman readies his adjoining full-serve restaurant, Pinkie's Cheryl Burr has fired up the stand mixers, collaborating with her former Bento roomies to sell sandwiches from the pastry case. The egg-salad specimen is straightforward and chunky, crunchy with diced celery, heaped onto a caraway-spiked house-baked rye kaiser. Not bad, though its raison d'etre might just be as prelude to a plush Pinkie's dessert ― the chocolate-strawberry bread pudding, say. Welcome to the neighborhood, guys.
