The Cosmopolitan, Rincon Center's Party Central
The place: The Cosmopolitan, 121 Spear (at Mission), 543-4001![]()

The hours: Mon.-Fri., 3:30-7 p.m. (Belgian Beer Garden Fri. 3-7 p.m.) [Note: The Cosmopolitan is closed today for the Memorial Day holiday.]
The deals: $3 Budweisers, $4 well drinks, $5 house wines, $6 cosmos, and $3-$8 bar snacks, plus $4 Belgian beers on Fridays
The digs: The Cosmo's noisy four-sided bar is Rincon Center's party central, and by 3:32 p.m. it's thrumming with high-fiving Dockers-wearing dot-commoners of both genders, smoothing their plumage, swilling the titular cocktail, and making the scene in general. Comfy window seating and attractive amber-beige surroundings.
The verdict: The cosmos are tasty, the atmo is saucy, and four bucks for a gin and tonic ain't bad, but the best thing about the Cosmopolitan's happy hour is the wide variety of bar snacks. French fries and onion rings are $3, quesadillas and spring rolls are $5, and pizza and Indonesian satay are $6. If you want to get quasi-classy there are house-made corn dogs with ale mustard ($6) and beignets ribboned with leeks and Smithfield ham ($6), too. Our favorite nosh, though, is the big platter of crunchy-juicy tempura string beans with wasabi aïoli for $4. The Friday Belgian Beer Garden is a good deal as well, offering five potent Low Country brews for only $4 apiece. ![]()
