At Paulette in Hayes Valley, Straus Soft Serve Meets the French Macaron
Paulette recently started offering Straus soft-serve vanilla ice cream and toppings with its French macarons. There are 10 suggested combos ($5-$6.50), including affogato with an espresso macaron, or customers can pick their own. Those who can resist the instant gratification of gobbling down the macarons can nibble on them as they break down into the melting ice cream, creating a new kind of alchemy.

We stopped in yesterday for Tea Time, ice cream drizzled with honey and garnished with a lemon and an Earl Grey macaron. Considering the name, we should have eaten it with our pinkie up. We'll be back soon for a proper do-over.
