La Cocina Names Food Vendors for Dolores Park

​La Cocina inked its final contract for park food selling with Rec and Park today. The Mission nonprofit will host two vendor venues in Dolores Park. The first ― El Huarache Loco ― plans to sell seven days a week, from a trailer owner Veronica Salazar is leasing from La Cocina for a full year. The second spot is weekends only, and will feature a rotating roster of vendors (La Cocina clients and others), selling from their own pushcarts. Expect to see Kika's Treats, Slow Jams, and the Love & Hummus Company, among others.

For the next 14 days, la Cocina is accepting online applications for vendors interested in selling in Dolores, vendors who don't even have to be currently operating legally. The idea, explains La Cocina's Caleb Zigas, is that these informal vendors can formalize (i.e., use La Cocina's licensed kitchen) for the length of time they'd be selling in Dolores. Sort of a way to urge vendors to formalize permanently.

Zigas says to expect to see the vendors in Dolores in about three to four weeks. They'll most likely cluster on the upslope, near the Liberty bell, depending on the park's renovation schedule. (Blue Bottle is also slated to begin Dolores Park sales.) As for Justin Herman Plaza, the other venue La Cocina won a contract for, there's no word yet from La Cocina about who might begin to sell there, or when.
