The lunchtime bar is thick with guys ― careful not to slip on the testosterone ― which makes the 21st A feel like a boys-only tree fort far from the gray-carpet blandness of office world. You can drain a hefeweizen and feel subversive, have a whole meal culled from the deep-fryer (the Brewmaster's fish and chips, say), or eat something whose raison d'etre is the consumption of semi-liquid cheese. That last option comes via 21st Amendment's beer and cheese soup, a thin broth sweetened with the onion-celery-carrot trinity of a chunky brunoise, sporting garlic toasts and a handful of some cheddar-dominant blend. Your spoon accrues a gummy coating of melted cheese, your shoulders feel slightly rubbery from the beer, you think, Why don't I have a drink every day at lunch?
