Kauffman's Five: This Week in Blogeration

Categories: Top Five
My favorite morsels from the blogs and beyond this week:

Bacon Camp project.
1. Those of us who proclaimed the death of bacon a year or two ago apparently need to shut the hell up. Good Foods Catering's upcoming all-bacon dinners are all sold out (though you can order the meal to go) and the return of Bacon Camp is this week's most-retweeted story.

2. You know the obesity levels in America are high when a group of retired military officers begin working on school lunch reform. Their motivation: More than a quarter of the pool of recruits are too heavy to enlist.

3. John Birdsall and I responded to Serious Eats' outsider view of Bay Area pizza by making a list of our favorite West Coast pies, the kind you'd never find in New York or Naples. We don't need outsiders telling us how to bake a proper pie.

4. Bite o' the week: Couldn't decide whether the best part of Ebb & Flow's clams in crab-chorizo broth were the juicy bivalves or the broth, redolent of paprika and garlic.

5. John Birdsall is taking a census of the growing population of taco trucks parked in the Financial District. This week, he traced a pack of Gap workers to Los Compadres, giving lip service to the truck's tongue.
