You Want Free Bi-Rite Ice Cream? You'll Have to Wait

The bigger, better, extra-rich Bi-Rite Creamery reopened March 3, but logistical problems pushed the opening of the much-touted soft-serve window back a week (it's still not open). At the time, the ice cream store announced that it would be hoohah-ing the new soft-serve machines on March 11 by giving away free ice cream cones.

Stay on that treadmill, people, because the window's taking a little longer to open. "Treat Day" is now pushed back to Thurs., March 18. But the same rules apply: From 4 to 8 p.m., stop by Bi-Rite Market to make a purchase ― organic beets, free-range chicken breasts, Sardinian fregola, hell, a bottle of water. Then run across the street, waving your receipt, and the ice cream store will hand you a small soft-serve vanilla, chocolate, or twist cone. Knowing Bi-Rite, the procedure may be more like shop, dash, waaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, wave, lick.

In any case, it's free. And it's ice cream.
