Magic Curry Man Brian Kimball Looks Back on One Year of Magic Curry, Crème Brûlée Carts

"It's been the most interesting year of my life, that's for sure," said Magic Curry Man Brian Kimball. "Sometimes it seems surreal that it's all happened like it has."

Kimball and his brother Curtis, creator of the Crème Brûlée Cart, will commemorate the birth of their successful culinary ideas, the amassing of thousands of Twitter followers, and the accumulation of at least a few handfuls of groupies this Saturday night, first with an outdoor gathering with multiple carts ― many of them inspired by the Kimballs ― with food for sale. They'll then host an after-party at nearby Fabric8 with drinks and beats from DJ Rajah (aka Soul Cocina chef/mastermind Roger Feely) and this blogger.

"The biggest thing I've experienced is getting a chance to hear people talk about their ideas," he noted. "They come up to me, e-mail me, message me, and tell me about something they wanna try. It's cool to see people think creatively and think about doing something that's so out of their comfort zone. I think that's the real energy behind it, people who've broken out of their little mold and done something different."

For Kimball, the journey has led him to opportunities that he might not have contemplated before but are an extension of his other career path in children's psychotherapy. These include his new volunteer gig teaching a weekly cooking class to students in the Fillmore District.

"The next chapter is going to be even more interesting," he predicted. "I want to try to bring more attention to nutrition and kids and healthy food. I also want to have a bit more fun with the scene itself and put more humor into it.

"I feel honored to have this opportunity and it's amazing to watch a little half-baked idea just blow up," he said. "Makes you believe you can do anything if you just follow through."
