Poleng Lounge Owner Planning Summit, a Cafe and Gallery on Valencia

Poleng redux?

It looks like plans are taking shape for Desi Danganan's Summit, a self-described Mission art bar and café in an old New College property at 780 Valencia (at 19th St.). That self-describing is courtesy of Danganan, who closed Poleng Lounge in January, and blogged last week that he'd finalized a lease deal for what he called his "new labor of love" ― The Summit: Art Bar/Café.

Turns out Danganan had his eye on the Mediterranean-style structure on Valencia before he knew he'd have to close Poleng. Originally conceived as Casa Poleng, a casual small-plates café, Summit, it seems, will be something altogether bigger (he's recently met with the designer who worked on Namu and SOM., and had input in Poleng). No word if Poleng's Tim Luym is on board, or if Summit will pick up the modern Filipino fusion theme that struck such a chord with diners there. No word, either, if Summit will duplicate Poleng's nightclub element.

Danganan hasn't yet returned calls seeking details. On his blog today, he acknowledged that buzz was already building, and expressed caution about leaking information. "I gotta be conscious of who's reading," Danganan wrote. Indeed.
