1. A couple years ago, a friend and I drove several hundred miles out of our way to stop in Pie Town, New Mexico, for apple and green chile pie. Now all I have to do is walk to Chile Pies. Something about the blog buzz around the new restaurant's Frito pie in the bag suggests a Frito pie street cart will appear in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

2. SFoodie's beer guy, Brian Yeager, discovers 100 beers, many of them not Bud or Miller, priced to sell at the Van Ness hofbrau Tommy's Joynt. Duchesse de Bourgogne for less than $5?

3. Bite o' the week: Asparagus season has finally come 'round, and I kicked it off by gorging on NOPA's smoky wood-grilled spears with an anchovy-lemon dressing and creamy curls of Mezzo Secco cheese.

4. Seattleites have been eating the city's best Mexican food in taco buses for almost a decade. And in 2003, the Chron wrote an article about Joe's Bustaurant, an underground Italian restaurant in the East Bay whose owner dispensed golden keys to his regular customers (hey, long-timers ― anyone know if it's still around?). Now high-end, fully legal bustaurants are revving up in L.A. and S.F.

5. The best part of Lauren Smiley's discovery of the plastic-pizza spinner in Washington Square Park? He's not doing it for the glory. He's doing it for the love.
