Brian Boitano's Street-Food Cart at Precita Park: Lutz and Lutz of Cheese
We've been breathlessly awaiting the street-food debut of Olympic and World Figure Skating champion Brian Boitano. It finally came this weekend at Precita Park, as Boitano hawked feats of dairy from a crafty cart dubbed "I Cart the Cheese" in front, and "Lutz and Lutz of Cheese" on the sides. His menu consisted of four items, priced at $1 each.

When we got there, the coveted grilled cheese sandwiches with red onion jam had sold out, but we enjoyed skewers of herb-dusted halloumi cheese and new potatoes and a rich (but not too-rich) mac and cheese made with bechamel, fontina, Gouda, and Asiago, topped with light homemade croutons.
"I like to use the bechamel instead of baking it so it doesn't dry out," Boitano explained.
Dessert was a beautiful little mascarpone cheesecake, enlivened with orange zest and walnuts in the crust. Everything was served on earthy, bamboo-looking plates -- perhaps a conceit for the cameras, but it made for the swankiest cheap eats we think we've ever had.

This maiden voyage into street food was filmed for an upcoming episode of the Food Network series What Would Brian Boitano Make? Season Two begins Sun., March 7, at 1 p.m.
