Now in its 44th year, the Pillsbury Bake-Off may be more venerable than Bayview's 30-year-old Soul Food Cook-Off, but we know which contest we'd rather judge. This Friday and Saturday, Bayview Hunters Point Multipurpose Senior Services brings together cooks and musicians for Black Cuisine 2010, a weekend of eating and dancing to benefit the organization.

The cooking contest takes place at the senior center on Friday afternoon, and then Saturday, the streets outside will be shut off for a party catered by Big Mama's Cafe. There should be no sign of caprese pesto margherita stackers or Rachel meatball poppers. An absence we can all be grateful for.
