Youk's Hot Sauce
We discovered Youk's Hot Sauce as an added option to our treasured Mariquita Mystery Box last week. Turns out it's a collaboration between the farm of the local culinary stars (from Alice to Zuni), Maverick chef Scott Youkilis, and his baseball star of a bro, Boston Red Sox baseman Kevin Youkilis.

The triple red chili threat of organic jalapeño, serrano, and cayenne peppers isn't thermonuclear, but enough of it will still please a spicehead. We haven't yet found something that it doesn't compliment, with so much more body and depth of flavor than the mass-marketed stuff we normally keep in the refrigerator door.

Find it online, at Maverick (3316 17th St. at Mission), and at Prather Ranch (Ferry Plaza at Embarcadero) for a suggested retail price of $7.
