Big blue Quan Bac opens today on Geary in the lounge-restaurant space that last housed
Sushi Rock #3. (Heck, it's housed a half-dozen restaurants over the past decade.) Owned by Shera Le, who also runs
Bun Bo Hue Quan Ngon Vietnamese Noodle on Noriega, Quan Bac specializes in French-Vietnamese fusion. It's not yet clear whether that means contemporary East-West food or the hybrid cuisine that emerged among the middle and upper classes in Vietnam during the colonial period (the kind of food served at La Vie, Le Colonial, and Aux Delices).
Phone calls didn't yield much information other than the fact that the
restaurant's hours right now are 11 a.m.-11 p.m., that there's a bar,
and that the signature dish on the 100-item menu might just be garlic
noodles. The sign posted above the door pre-opening (pictured) also
touted chicken phở and beef stew with French bread, a French-Vietnamese
classic.
