One Last Chance to See Crushpad Before It Emigrates

Scenes from 2009.
Custom crush facility Crushpad announced a few weeks ago that it's moving up to Napa next month, scoring a spot on the Silverado Trail (a disappointing move for supporters of urban winemaking, but one that may up the facility's romance factor for budding Helen Turleys).

So your last chance to sniff Crushpad's fermented Dogpatch air will be this Thursday, Feb. 25, when wine-oriented social media site Bottlenotes hosts its second annual tasting event, "Around the World in 80 Sips."

The name pretty much says it all: 80 wineries from the United States and abroad, plus cheese and live-action social networking. Advance tickets are still available at $60 a piece, but the price will go up $15 if you buy them at the door. An extra $20 for a VIP ticket -- and aren't wine enthusiasts all VIPs? -- gets you entrance to the tasting an hour early, when you might get a little more skin time with the winery reps. And if you spot that hot burgundy fancier you befriended last month, you'll finally get a chance to tell him in person what you thought of his notes on the 1992 Beaux Freres Pinot Noir.

Event details:

Location: Crushpad, 2573 Third St. (at 22nd St.), 864-4232
