Oakland's Wood Tavern Planning a Spinoff Next Door

​Popular Oakland restaurant Wood Tavern (6317 College at Alcatraz) is expanding. A public notice affixed to shuttered chocolate café Lulu Rae Confections reveals that owners Rich and Rebekah Wood have applied for a permit to operate a spinoff eatery in the 1,500-square-foot storefront at 6311 College, which is next door to the perennially crowded eatery. Apparently, plans don't call for expansion by simply punching a hole in the wall. A Wood source tells us that offerings at the offshoot will be limited to small plates, along with cheese and charcuterie platters. No word on an expected launch date.
