The last tenant was the exuberantly stripey Maritime East.
In tomorrow's Scoop, Stacy Finz reports that ex-SFoodie blogger, avid Chowhound, and out-of-work tech writer Robert Lauriston is making the leap into restaurant ownership. He's taking over the old Maritime East and Zax Tavern space in South Berkeley at 2826 Telegraph (at Oregon). The name ― Locanda de Eva ― seems a reference to an earlier restaurant tenant for the space, Casa de Eva. "The fare will be traditional Italian," Finz writes, "with lots of pasta dishes, seafood, Roman-style pizzas made in the restaurant's existing wood-fired oven and, of course, tiramisu." Of course.

The chef is reportedly Alex Placencia, former chef de cuisine of Miss Pearls Jam House in Oakland.
