Jonny Raglin and Jeff Hollinger of Absinthe did a walk-through yesterday of Comstock Saloon, their emerging homage to Barbary Coast boozing at the North Beach site of the shuttered San Francisco Brewing Company (155 Columbus at Kearny).

The 1907 building originally housed a tavern called Andromeda. The O.G. mahogany bar is being restored, only with the finish rubbed off so it looks appropriately antique. Comstock's centerpiece? A statue of beloved S.F. screwball Emperor Norton by local artist Peter Macchiarini. Comstock will have a full kitchen, though Raglin suggested the food would land somewhere on middle ground between full-blown restaurant and limited bar bites. Target launch date is in six to eight weeks. Read more ― and cop a peek at the Norton statue ― at our sister news blog, The Snitch.
