HAL 9000 Guest Chefs at Tonight's '2010: Seafood Odyssey' at Mission Street Food

Categories: Events, Palmer
The theme of tonight's Mission Street Food is "2010: Seafood Odyssey" and features a menu designed by HAL 9000, the famously sentient computer Arthur C. Clarke created for 2001: A Space Odyssey. HAL's just back from Jupiter, apparently, with a slew of retro-futuristic dishes priced at $12 and under, including shrimp and uni-stuffed tofu, scallion soubise, and chili vinaigrette; spicy crab cake with fried plantain, young coconut juice, and rice paddy herb; and nori financier with roasted pineapple and whipped mascarpone. Service begins at 6 p.m. at Lung Shan (2234 Mission at 18th St.). E-mail reservations (msfreservations@gmail.com) will be accepted until 3 p.m. today -- they're highly recommended. Profits will benefit the St. Anthony Foundation, contributing to its daily meal service to more than 2,600 locals. Note that MSF also states it won't resume its regular Saturday night service until Jan. 23.
