Sunday service.
From James Brown's "Mother Popcorn" to Louis Armstrong's "Potato Head Blues," food -- for its own sake and as a metaphor for, you know, something else -- has always been a preoccupation of soulful music. For the fair price of $15, you can have both on this (and every Sunday) at Farmerbrown's All-U-Can-Eat Soul Sunday Brunch: Eggs, bacon, pillowy buttermilk pancakes, hot biscuits, and fried chicken -- and live jams by members of the Bayonics and Crown City Rockers. Plates start piling at 11 a.m.

Farmerbrown 25 Mason (at Market), 409-3276
