Sunday's Pork Prom to Feature Something Altogether Tastier than Bon Jovi Covers

Categories: Events, Ladd, Meat

A Mangalitsa hog -- your, um, date for the Pork Prom.
This sounds like a prom worth getting dressed up for. Pork Prom ― a sort of CSA pork party ― will take over Blue Bottle's coffee roastery near Jack London Square in Oakland (300 Webster at Third St.). Here's the deal: Order in advance, and you can pick up 5- or 10-pound mixed boxes of pastured, heritage-breed pork (Berkshires, Ossabaws, and Mangalitsas) from Shasta Valley Farm in Gazella, Calif. Each box contains chops, ribs, and fresh sausage. Smaller boxes are $35; bigger ones are $60. You can also order 10- to 20-pound bone-in, skin-on hams ($6 per pound). Co-organizers are Live Culture (the folks behind the Eat Real Fest) and Sonoma Direct. The prom runs from 9 a.m. to noon. Expect bacon and sausage for nibbling, as well as Blue Bottle joe. No word if there'll be slow-dancing to "Forever Young." Reserve hams and hog boxes here.
