Feel the burn.
Top Chef has evolved from a way popular TV show to a media entity that launches cooks into fame, complete with charity events, books, and appearances.

As proof, consider the arrival of the Top Chef Quickfire Cookbook (Chronicle Books, $29.95) and newly released Top Chef Quickfire Wines. It's unsure how long the glow of a show on basic cable will last, but local cheftestants are stepping up for another moment in the spotlight next Tuesday, Dec. 8., when the book will be celebrated amid cooking demos and food and wine tastings with Jamie Lauren, Jennifer Biesty, and Ryan Scott.

It happens at the culinary showroom at Purcell Murray (185 Park at Valley Drive, Brisbane), 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $45, and include a copy of the book. RSVP by calling 330-5550 or e-mailing topchefrsvp@purcellmurray.com
