Tikka Tacos from New Street-Food Vendor Indilicious; Co-Owner Runs a Bread CSA

A new street-food vendor quietly debuted last Friday at the The Lab. Indilicious is the brainchild of Brian Soland and Julia Pon, a couple of twentysomething city planners. "From a really nerdy academic perspective, we're into thinking of ways to build community and create street life," Pon said. Enter the tikka taco, an assemblage of chicken or paneer, two kinds of chutney, pickled onions and cucumbers, and raita, all wrapped up in homemade roti (see below). Pon said Indilicious will take a break to allow for holiday travel, then hit the streets again in the New Year.

Indilicious isn't the first food business for Pon. Earlier in the fall, she started a bread CSA called Pandora's Box (it's still without a Web site or Twitter feed). She bakes different breads twice a week, and subscribers pick up their order from dropoff points or at Pon's house in the East Bay. She has about 20 subscribers in both S.F. and the East Bay ― as many as she can currently handle ― but plans to start a second subscription in January. The details involve points and values, but basically, customers drop $6-$7 bucks for a large loaf of bread and a few scones, or for a couple of medium loaves. Curious? E-mail Pon at pandorasbreadbox@gmail.com
