We first discovered Sajen on the first day it sold its inaugural products, turmeric and ginger-turmeric jamu, at the World Vegetarian Day Festival. A little over one year later and the small independent company has distribution through 14 Bay Area retail partners.

Beets Q is the newest offering from Sajen founder Morsinah Katmin's kitchen at San Francisco's La Cocina, and, like her first two, is also based on a health-promoting recipe from her grandmothers in the mountains of Central Java, Indonesia. Red beet juice, tamarind juice, and agave nectar are the chief ingredients in this tisane that gives a little lift and might, in large quantities, actually prove helpful for fighting high blood pressure.
