Nahman, whose last name translates as "comforter" in Hebrew, told SFoodie she decided on the idea to serve the traditional Jewish comfort food beverage of chocolate milk and seltzer after being inspired by the street-food vendors who offer items that are culturally authentic and relevant to their particular backgrounds.
"Although I am a young Bay Area native, deep inside my soul I am a Jewish Florida retiree," she said. "I call it my inner Miami grandma." Appropriately, hugs and advice will also be a part of the Egg Cream Cart menu.
As for Nahman's culinary experience? "I have worked in an Alice Waters restaurant, catered a wedding on a day's notice, and tomorrow I'm going to cook Thanksgiving for 13 on a freshly operated knee." Oy.
