The Commonwealth Club Goes All Street-y Later This Month with Panel Talk
Not too long ago, the city's street food offerings caught the attention of late-night borrachos fixing for bacon-wrapped hot dogs, hammered Zeitgeist hipsters heeding the arrival of the Tamale Lady, and hopeful day laborers with an appetite. Later this month, street food becomes the subject of a panel discussion in the dress-shirt ambience of the Commonwealth Club of California, and SFoodie's own Tamara Palmer is moderating, and there'll be a post-talk tasting at 111 Minna Gallery.
The Street Food Movement: SF Hearts the Cart takes place Thursday, October 29, in the Club's Blue Room (595 Market at Second St.), 6 p.m. (discussion starts at 6:30). The panel, besides moderator Palmer: Anthony Myint of Mission Street Food, Steven Gdula of Gobba Gobba Hey, and Brian Kimball of Magic Curry Kart. What's on the table? Unlicensed vendors' permit status, their plans for the future, and how all the current interest in street food might be affecting restaurants.
The Minna after party starts at 7:30 p.m. -- vendors are still being lined up, though rumor has it Crème Brûlée Cart is all over it. Cost is $20, $7 for students. Order tickets at the Commonwealth Club's Web site.
