Flooding on Folsom Knocks out Batter Bakery, Stable Cafe
One sweet casualty of yesterday's downpour: Batter Bakery, which bakes for its downtown kiosk at Mission Creek Kitchen behind Stable Café on Folsom between 17th and 18th Streets. Yesterday afternoon, knee-deep water flooded the building.![]()

"Within half an hour after the rains, we noticed that the streets started to flood a little bit," said Batter owner Jen Musty. "We ran downstairs -- we didn't realize it was what it was. It went from a little bubble of water in the drains to knee-deep in 15 minutes." Musty and others have spent much of the past 24 hours sifting through the damage, tossing food, and sanitizing the space -- she's hoping to get the green light from the Health department tonight to begin baking by early tomorrow at the latest. With any luck Stable Café will be able to reopen by the end of the week.
Musty hopes to be able to stock the Batter kiosk at 555 California (at Kearny) in time for breakfast tomorrow. If not, she said, she'll offer a limited menu of afternoon treats.
