San Francisco's Scott Hocker to Edit the Local Edition of Tasting Table
Think San Francisco is saturated with online food newsletters? Make room for one more daily message in your inbox. October 21 is scheduled as the launch date for the San Francisco edition of Tasting Table, a daily e-mail newsletter that started in New York. Its editor? Scott Hocker, who's leaving as senior editor of San Francisco magazine. Unlike food newsletters that focus on previews of about-to-launch restaurants, Tasting Table will seek to wield Hocker's chops as a critic. "We'll trumpet the things worth trumpeting, and bring critical analysis on a broader scale," Hocker told SFoodie. Coverage will embrace both high-brow and low-brow foods, Hocker said, promising to be "not wholly obsessed with the trendy," nor with being first on the scene at buzzy new eateries. ![]()
Tasting Table launched its New York edition in October 2008, followed by a national edition in early 2009. It has editions in L.A. and Chicago. Its backers are the Pilot Group, which developed the similar e-mail newsletters Daily Candy and Thrillist, and New York City restaurant entrepreneur John McDonald.
