Soul Food Farm Benefit Dinners: A Recap

​Last week, Eater (and others) reported on several events scheduled to raise funds for Soul Food Farm, the source of pastured chicken and eggs for a small but influential cluster of Bay Area chefs. One of them, Daniel Patterson of Coi, Il Cane Rosso, and the upcoming Bracina, told SFoodie what makes Soul Food special. "It's about quality and flavor," he said. "The way Alexis [Koefoed, Soul Food's co-owner] raises her birds is important to me from a philosophical standpoint, but at the end of the day we use their product because they're the best." A few more details about the benefits have emerged since last week.

• On Monday, September 28, ex-Fifth Floor chef Melissa Perello (she'll be chef at Frances, slated for a fall opening) is doing a special seasonal dinner at Sebo for $55. Whatever you do, don't call Sebo; inquire about reservations at monday_night@me.com.

• On Monday, October 5, 6-9:30 p.m., there's a benefit dinner at Café Rouge - the Berkeley restaurant cooks with Soul Food eggs, and sells them in its butcher shop. Rouge chefs Marcia McBride and Rick DeBeaord will be joined in the kitchen by guest chef Christopher Lee, late of Eccolo. Tickets are $50 through Brown Paper Tickets.

On Sunday, October 11, you can party on either side of the bay -- or both!

• There'll be two seatings (starting at 5:30-6 p.m., and 7:30-8 p.m.) for a special three-course family-style menu, including wine, at Il Cane Rosso in the Ferry Building. The cost is $50 a person, and it's co-sponsored by Coi. Cane Rosso chef Lauren Kiino hasn't firmed up the menu, but told us she'll be drawing inspiration from Soul Food Farm itself, "not only because Alexis brings us the best eggs and chicken I have ever eaten and cooked with, but because of her dedication." • Oakland's popular Pizzaiolo is closed Sundays, but owner Charlie Hallowell is throwing open his doors for a reception (time TBD). Hors d'ouevres, donated wine, and beer, with a raffle and silent auction. Raffle prizes include $100 gift certificates to Piccino Café and Café Gratitude, a $75 gift certificate to Bar Jules, signed copies of Chez Panisse cookbooks and Novella Carpenter's Farm City, Meatpaper magazine subscriptions, Ritual Roasters and Blue Bottle coffee, and more. The $10 admission (available from Brown Paper Tickets) includes one raffle ticket. If you want a chance at the swag but can't make the event, you can purchase $5 raffle tickets online. You don't have to be present to win.
