S.F. Street-Food Vendor Adobo Hobo a Big Deal on Filipino TV, Sort Of
The city's growing cluster of once-hidden street-food vendors are only partly underground these days, especially after recent exposure at the Bay Area's jammed-to-capacity street-food festivals.
But following recent appearances on Filipino TV, one pushcart seller may have left DL status permanently behind him. Adobo Hobo vendor Jason, who serves up chicken adobo and rice in city parks (and at last weekend's Eat Real Festival in Oakland), made two appearances on The Filipino Channel last month, in broadcasts reaching global audiences. A second Filipino programming network, GMA TV, recently interviewed him for an upcoming segment.
So is the 30-year-old street-food vendor suddenly a star in the Philippines? Not quite. "A lot of people have been bringing it up," Jason told SFoodie. "A friend of mine I was chatting with online said she heard about it from her friend in the Philippines. And a lot of people at Eat Real told me they'd seen me on TV."
