Kangaroo Meat - 'Fear Factor' worthy? I don't get it. Easily purchased in most supermarkets down here, is low in fat, low impact on the environment and very tasty when cooked properly.

The best way I've found to cook it is to sear the outside after seasoning, pop it into a 180C oven for 12 minutes or so, slice and serve. Yummo - tastes similar to decent cuts of beef.

'roo sausages however just don't work - they're not fatty enough to retain that decent sausage texture when cooked.

I eat kangaroo meat quite regularly, It is actually really good for you for a number of reasons. It's lean with very little fat, doesn't require as much area to raise, and they put out much much less greenhouse gasses than cows. The meat tastes a little different, but it isn't really that strange.

I have to agree with the other commenters: kangaroo is a perfectly normal meat for omnivores and better for the environment than beef or pork. I've been cooking it regularly since it was made legal for human consumption (instead of only for pet food) in 1991.

In addition to it being very low in fat and higher in protein than beef, the soft feet of roos don't cut into the fragile Australian soils. Not only that, but kangaroos reproduce almost like rabbits. What's not to like?
