Let's do lunch:
Restore your faith in lunch counter classics -- grab a B.A.L.T. (basil, avocado, lettuce, and tomato sandwich) and an order of apricot crisp, says SF Weekly food critic Meredith Brody, at The Sentinel (37 New Montgomery at Sevenson, 284-9960).

Drink therapy:
Hang out at the grand circular bar, grok the clubby ambience, and save a little: $5 classic cocktail hour (including wines by the glass and beers) at Orson (508 Fourth St. at Brannan, 777-1508), 5-7 p.m.

Score $4 wells and $2 off drafts and house wines, plus half off bottles of premium wines, at Harry's Bar (2020 Fillmore at Pine, 921-1000), 3-6 p.m. Stick around (or go drink somewhere else and stagger back) for a late-night classic burger and fries for $6.95, 10 p.m.-midnight.
