Joyce Goldstein and Hoss Zare Team Up for Mediterranean-Flavored Benefit
Mediterranean cuisine hounds will want to check out the Joyce Goldstein and Hoss Zaré dinner benefit this Sunday, July 12, at Zaré at Fly Trap (606 Folsom at Second St.). Goldstein, a prolific cookbook author and recipient of several James Beard awards, is cooking a sort of tag-team dinner in five courses with her buddy Zaré. The idea is to showcase the evolution of Mediterranean cuisine in the Bay Area over the last three decades -- much of which Goldstein and Zaré are personally responsible for. ![]()

The dinner will be something of a family affair, too, with master sommeliers Evan Goldstein (Joyce's son) and Chris Blanchard on hand to serve a selection of Mediterranean wines. Each will pour a small glass of his chosen pairing for each course. The evening starts with a Champagne reception and light appetizers at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 7 p.m. The event costs $200 per person - not cheap, except that proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels of San Francisco. For reservations and information, contact Zaré general manager Mario Nocifera at 243-0580, or mario@zareflytrap.com.
