Doggy Bag: Today's Odds and Ends
Our favorite morsels from the food blogs and beyond.![]()
Dogged: Just in time to seriously gag on them this weekend, Bay Area Bites' Denise Santoro Lincoln gets all wonky on the wiener. (She includes handy tables for brand comparisons -- unless freakishly morbid, avoid the sodium column.) The best part of Lincoln's blog? A clip from Dirty Harry, the lead-in to the infamous "Do you feel lucky," with a frowning Clint -- in an awesome hybrid of pompadour and mullet -- chewing a hot dog like he's masticating human flesh. Delicious.
Bonus round: Earlier this week Cooking with the Single Guy sidled into spanking-new Commis, James Syhabout's dimunitive place in Oakland. We love Single's pic chops and conscientious reportage, though there are lapses in his Commis report -- he was digging the food, not scribbling down factoids. The amuse-bouche, for instance, peach puree topped with green foam and a vivid orange petal -- that foam had him stumped: The server pretty much said the name four times and I still couldn't recognize it or understand how to spell it. All I know is that the bright orange petal on top comes from the plant and it's grown in the wild in the East Bay. Answer: nasturtium.
