| Hodo Soy Beanery's tofu |
Maker Faire Bay Area is an annual convergence of science and DIY geeks making merry, but it's also a gathering with potential interest to food geeks. No word as of this posting whether offal tacos from the North Bay's
Secret Eating Society will be among the above-average food offerings (as they were last year). But we do know that San Francisco's
Hodo Soy Beanery will be on hand to demonstrate how to make your own tofu, while
Ritual Roasters will demo French-press coffee-making, as well as the toddy (cold, filtered iced coffee). Or they'll just sell you the finished products if you're too lazy to deal. Check the
directory of food-related participants for updates as the event nears and to learn about other instructionals happening at the Maker Faire, from gardening and molecular gastronomy to foraging for produce from the
controversial Iso Rabin of forageSF. Maker Faire gets crafty
and tasty on Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31 at the San Mateo County Event Center (1346 Saratoga at Yates, San Mateo). Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available for
advance purchase.
