Many years ago, when I wore the guise of ice princess throughout the '80s, Olympic and World Figure Skating champion Brian Boitano (a Sunnyvale native) would often skate at my rink, Belmont Iceland. He inspired everyone around him with his effortless grace. His culinary aptitude was not obvious at the time; I never saw him consume anything but water during practice. But soon, 21 years since his Olympic win, Boitano will get a chance to show the world that he's got blades of glory in the kitchen as well as on the ice with the August debut of his Food Network television series, What Would Brian Boitano Make?

"Everyone knows Brian Boitano won an Olympic gold medal in figure skating," states the Food Network's press release. "What they don't know: Brian is an accomplished cook who loves to entertain! In this new series, Brian takes viewers on a reality cooking adventure as he creates amazing food for a new event in each episode. Funny, knowledgeable and irresistible, Brian brings himself and so much more to What Would Brian Boitano Make?"

The program's title is still provisional, but hopefully it will stick -- it appears to be a cheeky tribute to the glorious song from the South Park movie, "What Would Brian Boitano Do?"
