Snacktion: Grindstone Bakery's Gluten-Free Coconut Crunch Cookie
Brand: Grindstone Bakery
Origin: Santa Rosa
Cost: $3.09
Found at: Other Avenues (3930 Judah)
Ingredients: Whole quinoa, millet and buckwheat stone ground at the bakery, coconut, extra virgin unrefined coconut oil, cold pressed rice bran oil, agave nectar, 100% rice brown rice syrup, flax seeds, baking soda, Sonoma coast sea salt
Calories per serving: 238
Why I bought it: I was on a vegan, gluten-free kick for the evening.
Tasting notes: This has a great mouthfeel (ie. the texture is just right), but to call it a cookie seems like a misrepresentation of sorts. Even though it contains agave nectar, which is perfectly sweet, it's hard to detect it at all. In fact, this tastes a lot better if you happen to have a squeeze bottle of the nectar and drizzle it over the top. This is more like a coconut scone than a cookie.
Would I buy it again? No, but I have a feeling Grindstone's gluten-free bread, which is also baked in a wood-fired oven, is probably pretty good.
What other blogs/sites thought of it: Uh-oh, one Yelper declared, "Worst. Cookie. Ever."
