Snacktion: Bhooja King's Murkoo
Brand: Bhooja King
Origin: Hayward
Found at: Rainbow Grocery (1745 Folsom)
Cost: $3.59
Ingredients: Pea flour, rice flour, ajawin, sesame seeds, oil, chile, salt and spices
Calories per serving: Not listed
Why I bought it: It was a combination of wanting to learn what murkoo is (a deep-fried Indian snack crisp that looks like crinkle-cut fries) and supporting a local business (always an added bonus).
Tasting notes: While not excessively hot, the chili lingers long afterward, and they're a bit too crunchy for my liking.
Would I buy it again? No, but some of their other snack mixes look tempting, from fried spicy chana to a special Indian-Fijian mix of dried peas and rice crackers.
What other blogs/sites thought of it: East Bay Express is a fan, and published a story that describes the murkoo-making process at Bhooja King.
