Prelude to the Grilled Cheese Invitational

 Saturday, February 21 from noon to 5 p.m. has been set as the date and time for the second annual Northern California regional competition of the Grilled Cheese Invitational, which began in Los Angeles six years ago. Truth be told, it's not a true invitational since anyone may register a sandwich on the site and compete on the 21st, so if this sparks any cheesy inspiration, be sure to sign up. The categories are the same as they have been previously: The Missionary Position (classic grilled cheese), the Honey Pot (dessert grilled cheese) and the Kama Sutra (anything goes). The fest is also currently looking for volunteers.

We braved long lines and even questionable ingredient combinations during the inaugural event in Oakland in October 2007 and still managed to have a lot of fun, so we plan to be there on the scene to bring you a taste of this follow-up contest, taking place at a yet-to-be-announced San Francisco location.
