Snacktion: Trader Joe's Lumpy Bumpy Bar
Brand: Trader Joe's
Origin: Southern California
Found at: Trader Joe's (3 Masonic at Geary)
Cost: $2.49
Ingredients: Sugar, peanuts, corn syrup, dark chocolate, caramel, water, invert sugar, cocoa butter, vanilla extract, egg albumen, kosher salt, potato starch, invertase.
Calories per serving: 290
Why I bought it: I was caught by the name and reeled in by the description of "creamy caramel and peanut nougat drenched in dark chocolate." Normally, milk chocolate enrobes that sort of combo in a candy bar.
Tasting notes: This can be a bit messy if you try to bite into it; a knife might be a smarter choice. The nougat is reminiscent flavor-wise (if not so much texturally) of a Charleston Chew.
Would I buy it again? With its proximity to the cashier, the problem will be to not buy it every time I go to TJ's.
What other blogs/sites thought of it: Futile Sniff declares that "it had me at lumpy," while Candy Blog bestowed its "Tempting" rating (6 out of 10).
