Tcho Launches Beta Store

Categories: Sweet Beat

San Francisco has its very own chocolate factory with Tcho, a business launched in 2006 by former NASA software developer Timothy Childs and Wired founder Louis Rosetto. Coming from the technology world, Tcho puts all its personally sourced chocolate bars into beta testing, soliciting consumer feedback to help engineer the final products. Previously available online only, people may now pick up this special cacao at the brand new Tcho Beta Retail Store.

“Hopefully within the next six months, we will open our real store next store, which is a much bigger space," says the shop's keeper, Holly Harrison. With the proper store will come factory tours demystifying the chocolate making process and more deluxe tastings (including wine pairings), but in the meantime, check out the miniature Beta version and have a cup of potent Blue Bottle coffee while deciding what flavor best fits your profile: Nutty, Chocolatey, Citrus or Fruity. The Tcho Beta Retail Store is located at Pier 17 (at Green Street) and is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; call 981-0189 x 640 or visit the Web site. —Tamara Palmer
